HOPEWELL CEMETERY

Our thanks go to the Upshur County Historical Commission for allowing us to use their reading of Hopewell Cemetery.  The reading was done by: Thurman Hearn, Thurman Cagle, Durward Amos, Finley Tucker, Garland Bullock, and Curtis Hart. It was completed June 1, 2000. Thanks also go to Lea Ann Tedford  for the use of her partial reading. We have merged the two to help insure no one was missed. There are many unmarked graves, and graves marked only with native rocks.

Update: Thanks to Billy L Thompson, Sue Kennington, and Fendley Tucker, Secretary/Treasurer of the Hopewell Cemetery, for the recent update.  This should make the listing current through May 24, 2009.

Earp Col Cullin Redwine Aug 8, 1828 Oct 16, 1865 Per Ron Wade: Cullin Redwine Earp was a veteran of the Mexican War. He enlisted 6 May 1847 at Huntsville, Alabama and was assigned to Company "H" 13th Regiment of the U.S. Infantry. He was a Private and was mustered out on 15 July 1848. 
Private, Confederate Army, 10th Texas Cavalry, Co. D, enlisted in Upshur Co., Texas. 1st Lt. Elected Lt. Col. Born in Marshall, Ala., the son of William Earp (1800 ? 1874) and Betsy Vaughan (1802 ? 1837). He married Harriet Dunkly Vredenburgh, born about 1830 Ala.
Earp Evie Mae 1894 1921 Double stone w/John Alex - Evie Mae Petty Earp, born in Upshur Co., Tx., the daughter of Moses J. Petty (1855-1899) and Texie Ann Busby Petty (1861-1918), she married married John Alex Earp (1891-1959). Submitted by Ron Wade.
