LEE CEMETERY

This cemetery is located in Big Sandy, at the end of Pearl St west of Hwy 155.  (We didn't know the name of it until recently and was calling it Pearl Cemetery.) Lee Cemetery is on private property, and took numerous phone calls by Tom Mitchell, board member of the Upshur County Historical Museum, to get to the right people so that we could get permission to go into the cemetery.

The following 12 names are submitted by Valencia Allen. She says they are listed in her ggggrandmothers bible as "names of the deathes in margan row lee semterry".  These are apparently unmarked graves at present.  We can only assume that the "Margan row" is a row with unmarked Margan/Morgan/Morgon/Margon graves also, since no stones for Morgan were found on the 2002 reading.  Submitted August 2009.

Submitted by Paula Renee Hospins-Lindsey (sticklegs74@gmail.com) are possible unmarked graves: My Dad says my Great Great Grandfather and two of his wives are buried here. As well as my great grandfather. My Dad says they are buried on the left side of the cemetery near the entrance as you enter the gate.
I would like to add:
Henry Clay Hoskins 12/10/1934    Death Certificate
Malinda (Goodson) Hoskins, 1882?
Edward Clay Hoskins 1886 - 12/20/1931     Death Certificate
Emma Hoskins. 8/28/1933

The below reading is for marked graves found and submitted by Sharon Pierce.
January 19, 2002, accompanied by Tom Mitchell, my son Steven Newman, his wife Cheryl, and son Jason, we trecked in close to a mile, on foot. The graves are scattered over a little less than an acre. It is overgrown, and a lot of the stones are on the ground.  We read every stone that we could find, but feel there is a possibility that we may have missed some, as there is a thick carpet of pine needles across the whole cemetery. There are numerous old funeral home markers that are no longer readable, rock headstones with no names, and a few wrought iron fences with unmarked graves.

Thanks go to Steven Newman for the added pictures!
