Akins, Suzanne Marie GLADEWATER -- Services for Suzanne Marie Akins, 30, of Gladewater, will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 15, 2006, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Oklahoma. Suzanne fought a hard battle with melanoma cancer. She lost the battle on Thursday, May 11, 2006, at home in her bed, surrounded by her family. Suzanne had a great love for children, losing her own son that had Down Syndrome in 1999. She was born June 18, 1975, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas. She was taken too early; she had so much life to live. The short time that she was here, she touched a lot of people. Everyone that was lucky enough to meet her, loved her. She was a dedicated employee of Haverty's Furniture in Tyler. She loved her job and the people there. They did so much for Suzanne during this hard time. Suzanne was the most giving woman, even during her last months here. She was still trying to make everyone comfortable with the situation. She definitely made the world a better place. She said once that this was a win-win situation. If she beat cancer, she got to stay here with her husband, Jeff. If not, she got to go to be with her son, William Madison Akins. "You can now rest, baby. Go be with our son." She is survived by her loving husband, Jeff Akins of Gladewater; her daughter, Brianna Akins of Tyler; her parents, John William Shearer III of Gladewater and Jo Frances of Denison; one brother, David Lynn Shearer of Gladewater; one sister, LaWanda Olsen of Rockwall; four nieces, Brook and Jeri of Gladewater, and Sara and Amanda of Rockwall; two nephews, Matthew and Mark of Rockwall; her loving in-laws, Bill and Juanite Akins of Frankston; sister-in-law, Angie Shearer of Gladewater; and brother-in-law, Darin Olse. Pallbearers will be Michael Williams, Jeff Akins, Bill Akins, Jesus Longorra, David Shearer and Glenn Shearer. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, May 14, 2006, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
