Anderson, Gerald D. GILMER - Graveside services for Gerald D. Anderson, 86, of Gilmer, will be at 4 p.m. today, April 21, 2007, at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer, with Brother J.C. Henderson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer. Mr. Anderson died early Friday, April 20, 2007, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. He was born on Christmas Eve of 1920, on a ranch near Garden City in Glasscock County, Texas, to Laura McCoy Anderson and Chester Anderson. He graduated from McMurry College, attending on a football scholarship. After the war, he received his master's degree from North Texas State. He married Joyce Arnold in Gilmer in 1951, and they resided in the Concord Community, where they raised cattle since 1953. He was of the Methodist faith. Gerald was a retired English teacher and football coach, having taught and caught at Spring Hill, Plains, Gilmer Junior High and Ore City High School. He also directed one act plays. He also served as a U.S. Navy fighter pilot during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Survivors include his wife, Joyce of the Concord Community; daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Murray Jordan, also of Concord; son and daughter- in-law, Dr. Mitchell and Barbara Anderson of Flint; grandchildren, Maura Holcomb of College Station, Patrick Anderson of Flint and Diana Anderson of Austin.
