Andrews, Johnie "Bud" GILMER -- Graveside services for Johnie "Bud" Andrews, 90, of Gilmer, will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tyler, with Brother Earl Taylor officiating. Mr. Andrews passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, in Longview. He was born June 14, 1916, in Bonham, Texas, to Grover Andrews and Ida Stinson Andrews. Mr. Andrews moved to Gilmer in the early 1950s as the first state trooper to be assigned to Upshur County, where he proudly served the people of Upshur County until his retirement in 1978. Mr. Andrews was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gilmer. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, tinkering, and helping others as a "handyman." He especially liked music of all kinds and enjoyed playing the harmonica for his wife and the residents at the Bradford House, where he lived the last five years. Mr. Andrews loved the staff, and the family wishes to thank them for the wonderful care given to him. Mr. Andrews was preceded in death by his son, Mike Andrews; brother, Edward Andrews; and sister, Ruth Duncan. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Andrews of Gilmer; sister, Joyce Bickerdike of Tyler; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Pete Strickler of Tyler, and Billie Jean and Delbert Hamm of Kildare; and numerous nieces and nephews.
