Byrne, Charles T. "Charlie" GILMER -- Services for Charles T. "Charlie" Byrne, 83, of Gilmer will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Kenneth Montgomery and Jeff Proctor officiating. Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Upshur County. Mr. Byrne passed away Sunday, December 31, 2006 at a local hospital. Mr. Byrne was born June 9, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Raymond and Gertrude Rechtenwall Byrne. He was a retired medic with a M.A.S.H. Unit in the U.S. Air Force, had lived in Upshur County for 40 years and was a member of Brumley Baptist Church. Mr. Byrne is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Bridget and Phil Fowler of Gilmer; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Karen and Harold Holyfield and Sharon and Brian Ficke; and seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kourtney, Madison, Meagan, Peighton and Luke Holyfield and Fowler Gibson Ficke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Della May Tye Byrne, in 2006; and a daughter, Chardel Kathleen Byrne, in 1964. Pallbearers will be Sid Fowler, Ken Fowler, Tommie John Taylor, Lane Taylor, Glenn Sturdivant and William Neal Tye.
