Buie Sr., James Ray DIANA - Services for James Ray Buie Sr., 76, of Diana, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007, at Morton Baptist Church, east of Diana on Hwy. 154, with the Reverend Mike Brittain officiating. Interment will be in the Ashland Cemetery east of Diana. Mr. Buie passed away on October 30, 2007, at his home. James Ray was born June 2, 1931, at his family's home in Diana, to Chesley and Myrtle Buie. He resided on land that had been in his family for three generations. James Ray Buie Sr. graduated from New Diana High School in 1949. He attended East Texas State University in Commerce and received a bachelor's degree in education in 1953. In August of that same year, he married Dorothy Hawkins of Diana, and they had two sons. In 1956, James Ray contracted polio at the age of 25 and was confined to a wheelchair. All who knew and loved him can attest the affliction never broke his spirit. He went back to East Texas State University and graduated with a master's degree in 1963. For 29 years, he taught school with 26 of those years being in a wheelchair. In 1986, he retired from teaching at New Diana ISD. He continued in his career of cattle ranching and spoiling grandchildren. Preceding Mr. Buie in death were his parents, Chesley and Myrtle Buie, formerly of Diana; one brother, Franklin M. Buie, formerly of San Antonio; and one sister, Nadine Buie London, formerly of Longview. A loving husband, father and grandfather, James Ray is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James R. Buie Jr. and wife, Debra of Diana, and Spike R. Buie of Hallsville; three grandchildren, Joni Lynn Buie of Irving, Zachary C. Buie of Austin , and Kati M. Buie of San Marcos; and his special coffee drinking buddies, Larry and Carolyn Hawkins of Diana. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ashland Cemetery Fund, 24699 St. Hwy. 154, Diana, TX 75640; or Morton Baptist Church Building Fund, 22177 St. Hwy. 154, Diana, TX.
