Chambers, Lela Wilma "Mac" GLADEWATER -- Services for Lela Wilma "Mac" Chambers, 98, of Gladewater, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2006, at the Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater, with the Rev. Rodger Garbs officiating. Burial will be in Gladewater Memorial Park. She was born November 28, 1907, in Charleston, Texas, to J.L. and Pearl Evans McGuyer, and passed away Thursday, November 23, 2006, in Gladewater. She grew up on a farm and attended East Texas State Teachers College. While teaching in a two-room schoolhouse in Horton, she met and married W.O. "Bud" Chambers on September 19, 1931, and moved to Gladewater. Mac was an excellent cook and accomplished seamstress, bridge player and horsewoman. She and her husband were active in Gladewater Round-up, both having signed the original charter for the organization. She participated in the flag and musical chair events in the early shows, winning all four nights on more than one occasion. Mrs. Chambers was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Mary Martha Sunday school class, until its demise. Survivors include her two daughters, Jo Nelle Chambers of Houston, and Joy Hallette of Gladewater; two grandsons, Robert "Chip" Hallette of Gladewater, and Richard "Mac" Hallette of Dallas; one sister, Annah Moody of Franklin Lake, New Jersey; one brother, Dale McGuyer and his wife, Peggy, of Texas City; and several nieces and nephews.
