Cook, Ruth Buie GILMER -- Services for Ruth Buie Cook, 86, of Gilmer, will be held 10 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2006, at First United Methodist Church in Gilmer, with the Reverend Kenneth Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, under the direction of Croley Funeral Home. Born November 29, 1919, in Gilmer, to Franklin Neil and Blanche Davis Buie, she died Tuesday, August 22, 2006, in Gilmer. She lived in Gilmer all of her life and attended Stevens College in Missouri and Southern Methodist University, where she was in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Mrs. Cook was very active in community service, a member of Twentieth Century Club, Garden Club, Library Board, Dallas Women's Club, two bridge clubs, and an active member of First United Methodist Church. She was compassionate to her neighbors and friends, and enjoyed traveling, walking, and gardening. Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Berry Cook. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Louisa Cook of Dallas, Tom and Patti Cook of Longview, and Bill and Karen Cook of Longview; and seven grandchildren, Julie, Hayley, Elizabeth, Bill Jr., Kevin, Alison, and Buie. Pallbearers will be Gearald Farris, Steve Williams, Paul David Williams, William B. Cook Jr., Robert Buie Cook, and Kevin Ford Cook.
