Gilmer Daily Mirror-dated Thursday afternoon, January 9, 1941 William Davis, Old Confederate Died Tuesday William Davis, aged eighty-nine years and twenty-nine days, died at 6:15 Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nancy Woods of Gilmer. Mr. Davis was born at Fort Smith, Ark., December 11, 1851. While still a very young boy he served in the Confederate Army. Thirty-eight years ago he moved to Upshur County and farmed here until the infirmities of old age prevented active work. He was married to Parthenia Ward of Arkansas who preceded him in death four years ago. To this union seven children were born, four of whom survive their father. He was a member of the Baptist Church. In addition to his children he is survived by thirty-one grand children and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. The following grandchildren live in Gilmer: George Franklin Davis, Ada Rials, Lester Davis, R. L. Davis, Esther Davis and Otis McHenry. Funeral services will be held at two-thirty p. m. Friday at the Concord cemetery. Brother Jack Bullard will conduct the services.
