UPSHUR COUNTY - WEST MOUNTAIN CEMETERY


Graveside services for William “Dick” R. Douglas, 62, of Gilmer will be Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the West Mountain Cemetery with Mr. Craig McCrary officiating under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Burial will follow at the West Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Croley Funeral Home prior to services. Mr. Douglas passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 in Gilmer.

Dick was born September 12, 1953 in Anchorage, Alaska to the late Richard and Goldie Douglas. He worked for Commercial tire for 13 years as a tire mechanic; retiring after health issues. Mr. Douglas was known as opinionated and outspoken. He also had a great sense of humor and at one time aspired to be a standup comedian. He enjoyed cooking and made a great omelet. Dick was a member of the West Mountain Church of Christ. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Douglas will be missed by all the family and friends he leaves behind.

He is survived by four daughters Lisa Shey of Alexandria, LA, Joelle Pilcher of Gilmer, Kara Douglas of Gilmer and Kristin Walker of Gladewater; two sons Launie Douglas of San Francisco, CA and Manuel Walker of Lincoln, NE; ten grandchildren as well as many other loving family and friends.

Mr. Douglas is preceded in death by his wife Daria Jean McCann Douglas who passed away in 2004 and a sister Rose Ann Upmeyer.
