Elwell, Minnie 1914 - 2007 GILMER - Graveside services for Minnie Elwell, 92, of Gilmer, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007, at Sunset Memorial Park in Gilmer, with Larry W. Osborne officiating. Mrs. Elwell died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, in Gilmer. Mrs. Elwell was born September 3, 1914, in Sand Hill, Texas, to Herbert and Verna Lee Hefner Jones. After Herbert's death, she was raised by her second father, Oliver Yocum Sr. Minnie helped operate the family's Sherwin Williams store in Gilmer for many years. She was also assistant to Upshur County District Clerk, Leo Williams, for 12 years. She and her husband, Arlton F. Elwell, who preceded her in death in 1982, were charter members of Midway Baptist Church. The church was founded in their home on March 22, 1950. She was a dedicated Bible student and taught Sunday school for many years. Minnie was a lifetime resident of Gilmer who was well-known and well-liked in the community. She was fully devoted to her family and enjoyed life and spent many hours gardening and cooking. Mrs. Elwell is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Dianne Elwell of Georgetown, Texas, and Jim and Wanda Elwell of Gilmer; grandchildren and spouses, Jae and Poppy Elwell, and Jodi and James Carter; five great-grandchildren, Jericha, Jonathan, Max, Wesley and Allison; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening, April 19, 2007, at Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer. Published in the Longview News-Journal on 4/19/2007.
