Henry, Hazel Laverne GILMER -- Services for Hazel Laverne Henry, 89, of Gilmer, formerly of the Little Mound Community and Amarillo, Texas, will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2006, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Charles Johnson and the Reverend Dicky Mauk officiating. Burial will follow in Little Mound Cemetery. No formal visitation will be held. Mrs. Henry passed away Thursday, January 26, 2006, in Gilmer. Hazel was born May 31, 1916, in Little Mound, formerly the Old Calloway Community in western Upshur County, to the late Thomas Franklin and Georgia Ann Langford, and was the last of 11 children born to Tom and Georgia. Hazel was married to Cleo Clinton Henry in 1934. They moved to the Panhandle of Texas in the late 1940s, and raised their two children in Amarillo, then retired to Little Mound. Hazel was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Amarillo and Little Mound Missionary Baptist Church. She worked in Amarillo school system cafeterias. She was a "world class' mother, cook, and homemaker. She had an iron will and a steel constitution. She was an example worthy of emulation. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Gracie Nell and Gene Minter of Little Mound; son and daughter-in-law, Donald Bert and Paula Henry of Tyler; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
