Old citizen Passes Away 
Mr. Geo Herron, octogenarian of Upshur county Texas whose home for many years has been 
in Graceton, died at the home of his nephew A. A. Rutledge, at Bettie Texas , sunday at 
the advanced age of 82 years with the infirmities incident to old age.  He was born in 
Mecklenburg North Carolina . After the Civil War he moved to   Shelby county Tennessee. 
He came to Upshur county in the 1880s with his wife Jane Rebecca Davis. He was well 
known and greatly esteemed in the county and his death will be deeply deplored. He leaves 
a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his demise. The funeral took place 
Monday afternoon and his remains were laid to rest at Oak Hill cemetary. a large number 
of friends and relatives turning out to pay last sad earthly tribute to his Memory. 

Note:  After George  died  his wife Jane Rebecca Davis,  sister to Nancy Davis Rutledge  
moved to Turkey Texas  where she lived with her daughter Eugenia Herron Mckay until her 
death in 1931. Jane is buried in Dreamland Cem in Turkey Texas.
