Hughes, Emma Louise Memorial services for Emma Louise Taylor Hughes, 71, of Ore City, will be 4 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2006, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Highway 259 North in Ore City, with Mike Gray officiating. Emma Louise Hughes, a longtime resident of East Texas, was born February 14, 1935, in Covington, Kentucky, and she died Thursday morning, August 24, 2006, in Longview, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Arthur Hughes, but was attended at her bedside by her seven children. Mom lay in the hospital bed appearing small and vulnerable as she worked through the dying process. We seven children were in the room with her, but we knew that this was her struggle, her battle, her last deed to accomplish. We could not help. We sat in the room as silent watchers, silent witnesses to her passing. It was a long, slow process. The only thing that makes this vigil bearable is our complete faith that in death, Mom will have peace. She knew absolutely that "as for the dead they are conscious of nothing at all" and that in death there is "no work, nor devising, nor knowledge." - Eccl. 9:5, 10. In death, Mom will be safe in Jehovah God's memory, waiting on His promise of a resurrection to life again right here on earth. - John 5:28, 29. Mom believed in this God given promise with her whole being. Through the Bible book of Job, Jehovah God even promises to make Mom's '"flesh fresher than in youth." - Job 33:25. Can you picture it? To live again in youthful grace right here on earth, cleansed of all wickedness, where only the meek and righteous hearted will live forever. PS. 37:9-11, 29. Mom believed it and we believe it. We have uncompromising faith in all of God's promises, for He can not lie (Titus 1:2), promises of when He will open his hand and "satisfy the desire of every living thing." - PS.145:16. Survivors include: Sharon Kayleen Wilson with husband, David, of Ore City; Hugh Dyrle Hughes with wife, Nabeeha, of Ore City; Valencia Janel Downing with husband, Terry, of Longview; Patricia Anne Elliott with husband, William, of Ore City; Ricky Duryan Hughes of Longview; Teresa Darnelle Gordon of Ore City; and Levita Rose Hughes of East Mountain. Her 17 grandchildren are: Billy Allen, George Daniel, Samuel Joseph, John Russel, Mathew Wayne, Christopher Charles, April Renae, Dara Anne, Cady Robin, Kelsey BriAnne, Kayla Brekke, Kimberly Belle, Jennifer Rae, Dana Louise, Eric Lane, Jenny Marie, and Brandon Anthony. Her two great-grandchildren are: Jeremy David and Ava Reid. Her sister, June Katherine Marshe of Cynthiana, Kentucky; and brother: Calvin Kent Taylor of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, also survive her.
