Henson, Lucille Bullard "Mimi" GILMER -- Services for Lucille Bullard "Mimi" Henson, of Gilmer, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer, with Elder Harley Stripland, Elder Jimmie Stripland, and Brother Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. Mrs. Henson passed away on Monday, January 29, 2007, in Gilmer. Mary Lucille Bullard Henson was born in Brandon, Mississippi. She graduated as valedictorian from Mississippi Southern University, where she received a bachelor of arts degree. She taught in public schools for 36 years, with 33 years in the Harmony ISD in Uphsur County. At a very young age, she began writing and reciting poetry. She was a very patriotic poet and speaker. She had performed original works for festival and gatherings in numerous East Texas counties. Plaques containing some of her original writings have been presented to Texas Governor Rick Perry and former Texas Governor George Bush. Other examples of her work are displayed in many public buildings, including Stephen F. Austin State University and the Mississippi Bureau of Tourism. Lucille had a great love for the Primitive Baptist Church and her country. Her most treasured possessions, however, were her many grandchildren, who knew her as, "Mimi." She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Donna Henson of Gilmer, Larry and Bebe Henson of Gilmer, and Ronnie and Theresa Henson of Carthage, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins. Pallbearers will be James Schuler, Butch Davidson, Ocho Ward, Donnie Chamberlain, Royce Cook, and Danny Langford. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Woodle, Kenny Thompson, Mike Bunn, Joe Sieber, Morris Mason, and Odie Bailey. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. this evening, January 30, 2007.
