Hudgins, Mary Ann GILMER -- Services for Mary Ann Hudgins, 83, of Gilmer, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2006, at First United Methodist Church in Gilmer, with Dr. David Jenkins and Larry W. Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in Gilmer City Cemetery. Mrs. Hudgins passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2006, in Tyler. Mary Ann Hudgins was born April 9, 1923, in Elgin. She was the daughter of Gertrude Richards of Kilgore and David Mills Puckett of Buda. Her father was a civil engineer and one of the first district engineers for the Texas Highway Department. Her sister, Jane Puckett Holt, preceded her in death. Mrs. Hudgins graduated form Waco High School and attended Baylor University. She married Royce Hudgins on February 28, 1942, in Meridian, Mississippi. Following his stint in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, they returned to his hometown of Gilmer in 1945, where they joined in operating the family clothing store. Active in many community organizations and functions for nearly 50 years, Mrs. Hudgins promoted her adopted hometown with fervor and enthusiasm. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Deeply devoted to her family, her friends, and her community, her presence will be keenly missed. Mrs. Hudgins is survived by her husband of 62 years, Royce Hudgins of Gilmer; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Hudgins of Gilmer, Bud and Nancy Hudgins of Gilmer, and David "Scoot" and Paula Hudgins of Waxahachie; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nieces; and many friends. Pallbearers will be Bob Bates, Steve Stewart, Gordon Finney, Jim Barber, Tom Davis, and David Stephenson. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening, June 23, 2006, at Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer. Published in the Longview News-Journal on 6/23/2006.
