Johnson Jr., Floyd HEMPHILL -- Floyd Johnson Jr. passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, February 23, 2007, at his home near Hemphill, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Carrie Johnson; his sister, Violette Johnson Morrison; his brother, Harold Johnson; and his daughter, Carol Ann Harper. Mr. Johnson lived in Gladewater, graduating high school in 1940. He married Mary Elsie Elmer, also of Gladewater, attended Hardin Simmons University and served in the U.S. Army from October 1942 until February 1946. He returned to Gladewater, where he owned and operated Johnson Electric. He moved to Hughes Springs as superintendent of the electrical department at Lone Star Steel. In 1968, the Johnsons moved to Iran and later to Saudi Arabia, until he retired in 1984. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 67 years; one son; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be both today and Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2007, at Gladewater Memorial Park Cemetery in Gladewater, Texas, under the direction of Starr Funeral Home.
