Johnson, Monta Mae GILMER -- Funeral services for Monta M. Johnson, 86, of Gilmer, will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2006, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer, with Brother Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Rosewood Cemetery of Upshur County. Mrs. Johnson died Thursday, February 9, 2006, in Gilmer. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. this evening, February 11, 2006. She was born January 16, 1920, to John and Artie Shelby. She was married to Norman Dane Johnson on June 10, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1986. Before her death, she was the only charter member of Harmony Methodist Church in Rosewood, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school, youth groups, and other various ways of serving her Lord. Monta was a very loving, caring person who devoted her life to her family, which she loved very deeply. Before her health began to fail, she had many loves and hobbies which included cooking, sewing, gardening, and music. She worked as a waitress for many years and later a nurse's aide. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Norman Sr. and Lill Johnson of Nacogdoches; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and William Robertson of Gilmer; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Pam Edge and Marie Thornton. Pallbearers will be Norman "Bucky" Johnson Jr., Shelby "Pacer" Johnson, Jason Havard, Bill Robertson, Dane Robertson, and Jonathan Crabtree.
