Ledbetter, Donald L. GLADEWATER - Services for Donald L. Ledbetter, 66, of Gladewater, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2007, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gladewater, with the Rev. Byron Allen and Larry W. Osborne officiating. Burial will be in Gladewater Memorial Park. Born August 31, 1941, in Vina, Alabama, he died Tuesday November 20, 2007. He moved to Texas with his family in 1950. A graduate of Leverett's Chapel High School and Kilgore Junior College, he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in music from East Texas State Teachers College. After receiving his degrees, he was band director in Hot Springs, Arkansas; Linden; Texarkana; and Gladewater. Several sweepstakes awards in marching and concert contests were achieved under his leadership. He ended his musical career in the Kilgore Independent School District. He was a member of Laird Hill Baptist Church. He fought a long and hard battle with diabetes and heart disease. He is survived by two sons, Scott Ledbetter of Dallas and Jon Ledbetter of Gladewater; four grandchildren, Alex Ledbetter, Lanie Ledbetter, Amon Ledbetter and Hayden Ledbetter, all of Gladewater; mother, Marie Ledbetter of Laird Hill; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Paul Smith of Gladewater and Wanda and Mike Pilcher of Gladewater; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Ledbetter; son, Gary Don Ledbetter; brother, David Ledbetter; and father, J.C. Ledbetter. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2007, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Published in the Longview News-Journal on 11/23/2007.
