Upshur County Obit - William Roger Mathis

W.R. MATHIS RITE HELD THURSDAY
 
William Roger Mathis, a native and lifetime resident of this county, 
died Wednesday, March 2 after a short illness at his residence in Gilmer.
A brick mason by trade, Mr. Mathis had been a member of the Baptist 
Church since youth.

At the time of his death, he was 87 years, 2 months, and 21 days old.  
In addition to his widow, Mrs. Bertha Mathis, he is survived by a son, 
Otis G. Mathis; three daughters, Mrs. Pearl ? of Dallas, Mrs. Lela Taylor 
of Lindale and Opal Mathis of Terrell.  Also one brother, John A. Mathis, 
whose home is in New Mexico.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Croley Chapel with Dr. 
D.A. Williams pastor of First Baptist Church, conducting the final rites.

Pallbearers were Geddy Mathis, Wm. Mathis, Claiborne Davis, Richard Johnston, 
Russell Waller and Don Morgan.  

Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
