UPSHUR COUNTY - WILLOW OAK CEMETERY


Lois Ellen McAlester, of Pittsburg, passed away Sunday, June 5 in Dallas at the age of 89. 

Mrs. McAlester was born December 6, 1926 in Baggwell, Texas to Charley Gaston Strickland and Mary Elizabeth Perkins Strickland.

Lois obtained her Bachelors degree in education and enjoyed a lengthy career as a teacher with the Pittsburg Independent School District, before retiring in 1985. She was a past president of the Camp County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg and also the Lydia Sunday School Class. She was also a retired Pink Lady.

Mrs. McAlester is survived by two sons: Timothy Lee McAlester and wife Kathy, and Terry David McAlester and wife Mary; as well as 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Mary Strickland; her husband: Shelby Lee McAlester; a son: Ronald Drew McAlester; and two brothers: Raymond and Gaston Strickland.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 8 at First Baptist Church in Pittsburg with Bro. Steve Packer officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Oak Cemetery in Upshur County. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 7, at the funeral home.
