GILMER - Graveside services for Gene Nations, 79, of Gilmer, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008, at Morris Cemetery, with the Rev. Ken Calhoun officiating. The graveside service is under the direction of Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer. Born October 15, 1928, in Gilmer, Texas, the son of Oscar L. and Lois Nations. He died Monday, December 31, 2007, in Dallas, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He received his bachelor's degree from Lamar University and his master's degree from Southwest Texas. He was a coach, teacher and counselor. He was a Methodist. An avid golfer, he was also a fan of movie classics, the Gilmer Buckeyes and the Dallas Cowboys. He is survived by his wife, Nelwyn Childress Nations of Gilmer; two sons, David Nations of Cedar Creek and Daniel Nations and wife, Ann, of Irving; daughter, Liz Stone of Hillsboro, Oregon; two grandchildren, Caroline Nations of Cedar Creek and Leila Nations of Chicago, Illinois; brother, Bob Nations and wife, Yvonne, of Hondo; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Ruth Ann Childress of Gilmer; aunt, Mildred Farmer of Diana; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
