Nicholas, Troy DIANA - Troy Nicholas passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, surrounded by his family at his home after a long bout with cancer. Troy was born May 27, 1930, in Avery, Texas, the son of Howell and Sallie Garrett Nicholas. When Troy was seven, his father died in a cotton gin accident, leaving Sallie to raise seven children during the Great Depression. After high school, Troy proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 aboard the U.S.S. Endicott during the Korean Conflict. While stationed in Hawaii, Troy and Wanda Cordell of DeKalb, Texas, were married on August 19, 1953. Their daughters, Travonda and Sheila, were born in 1954 and 1959. After military service, he attended Arlington State College, receiving an associates degree in industrial electrical engineering. He then went to work for IBM, and eventually settled in Ore City, Texas, in 1962. During his tenure with IBM, Troy received numerous service awards. Troy retired from IBM in 1985. He and Wanda traveled, RV'd and enjoyed their children and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jerry Lansdale. Troy is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Wanda; daughters, Travonda Satterwhite and Sheila Goodgame; sons-in-law, Sam Satterwhite and David Goodgame; grandchildren, Angela Ables and her husband, Jeremy, Christi, Nick and Lindsey Satterwhite; sister, Tilli Warren; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
