UPSHUR COUNTY - CREMATION Services for Sammy Overstreet will be held 10a.m. Friday September 30, 2016 at the chapel of McWhorter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 6-8p.m. Sammy was born to Samuel and Ina Ruth Overstreet on May 4, 1947 in Camp County and died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in Gilmer. Mr. Overstreet married Darla Hughes June 3, 1966. He was a licensed peace officer for most of his adult life, having served as a patrol officer for city of Gilmer, City of Linden, and then served with the Ark-La-Tex Narcotics Task Force working undercover for a number of years. Later he opened ABA bail bonds in Gilmer. He was very active in Upshur County youth baseball and softball organizations for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Janice Overstreet and Norman Overstreet Sammy is survived by his wife of 50 years; Darla Overstreet, children; Tracey Cason and her husband Bill and Kativa Robinson. Brothers; Gary Overstreet, Bruce Overstreet, James W. Wallace, Ricky Wallace, and Bobby Wallace. Sisters; Ina Lou Waldrep, Mary Sue Smitherman, Martha Ann Kerr, and Cindy Shearin. Grandchildren; Jacob Robinson, Brittany Cason, Madison Cason, Samantha Cason, and William Cason.
