Services for Newana Jean Pope, 78, of Gilmer, Texas, will be Friday, June 20, 2014, at 10:00 AM at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Chad Richardson officiating. Services are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater, Texas. Mrs. Pope passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014, in Gilmer, Texas.

Newana Jean Pope was born in Marion County, Texas, to Bartus M. Downs and Mary J. Duke Downs on May 9, 1936.

Mrs. Pope was married to Louis Gene Pope and worked as a Monitor Technician at the UT Health Center. 

She was a strong Christian and honoring the Lord was a big part of her life. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Newana is survived by her sons; Louie B. Pope and wife Stella of The Colony, Texas, Robert Pope of New Diana, Texas, Arthur Pope and wife Becky of Gladewater, Texas, Jerry Pope and wife Daphne of White Oak, Texas; daughter, Mary Snider and husband Lynn of Hawkins, Texas; 12 grandchildren: Jami, Michael, Michelle, Elisha, Tosha, Jeff, Eric, David, Jeri, Louie, Dillon, Garrett, and 9 great grandchildren. 

Mrs. Pope is preceded in death by her parents, Bartus M. Downs and Mary J. Duke Downs, and by her husband, Louis Gene Pope.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 19, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.
