Peter Shrum, Jr At the residence of his son, Mr Elisha Shrum, ten miles west from Gilmer on Saturday, November 10, 1888, Mr Shrum, aged 82 years and one day, died of flux. Mr Shrum was born in North Carolina, November 6, 1806, and came to Texas in March 1884.  He made his home with his daughters, Mrs Adolphus King and Mrs Lem Wilburn, and his son Frank. Mr Shrum enjoyed talking about his life in North Carolina. He was the grandson of Pioneer Nicholas Shrum from Holland to Pennsylvania and on to North Carolina during the early days of the Reform German Lutheran Church. Mr Shrum spoke the German language fluently since his grandparents spoke it. He lived in the past. Mr Shrum married the former Nancy Painter in 1829 who preceded him in death in 1865. He leaves to mourn his passing three daughters, Mrs Ann Wade, Mrs Bettie Wilburn, Mrs Call King and three sons, John, Elisha, and Frank. He was buried in the Grice Cemetery where his son Jacob lay.
