MARY FRANCIS STANLEY (1927 written at top. Thanks to Lea Ann Tedford for this obit) Born in Blount County, Ala. September 25, 1843 She came to Texas with her parents, T. L. Cox and wife, when only 5 years old. Her father homesteaded the John Cromer place and other adjoining places to same about the year 1848. She was first married to Henry F. Gage, April 29, 1858. To this union were born two children, Malphanetia Ballard, who died several years ago, and H. A. Gage who live near Pritchett. Mr. Gage died and was buried at Little Rock, Ark. He was in the Confederate army. She was married to D. W. Stanley, January 3, 1866. To this union were born eleven children, five boys and six girls as follows: Mr. Emma Combs of Goodlett; Mrs. Julia Goins of Omaha; M. D. Stanley of Oak Cliff; M. J. and Lark Stanley, Mrs. Lucinda Maberry, Mrs. Nancy Stegall and Mrs. Levia Robertson, all of near Pritchett. Two boys and one girl dead of this union. There are 50 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren living. She united with the Primitive Baptist Church in 1861, and was baptized by Elder Melvin Jeter. she lived a consistent and faithful member to the end, ever contending for right and peace. She was a noble mother of Israel, ever ready to help the needy. She was a devoted wife and a mother to her children; a friend and neighbor to all whom she came in contact with. She lived a life well worth emulating. She bore her sufferings with grace and fortitude for more than a year. She will be missed greatly by her husband, children, friends and church. She passed away July 7, and was laid to rest in old New Hope Cemetery the following day. A large congregation were present. The flowers were profuse and beautiful both in lie and death. Elders J. M. Scroggins and Louis N. Barrow of Lindale conducted the funeral services with impressive talks. The entire community extends eondolence to the breaved ones.
