Steele, Joy Hughes Joy Hughes Steele, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, lost her battle with breast cancer on Sunday evening, December 10, 2006, at her home in Diana. Memorial services will be held 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at the Fellowship Bible Church at 4600 McCann Road in Longview, with Pastor Jim Johnson officiating. Joy was born November 29, 1940, in Pickens, Louisiana. She graduated from Port Neches-Grove High School in 1958, and later graduated from Port Arthur Business School. Joy was a retiree of the Gulf-Chevron Chemical Corp., where she worked in several clerical positions and as a company facilitator. She served several years on the board of directors and as chairman of the annual Buckner-Chevron Charity Golf Tournament in Beaumont. Joy was a homemaker and a member of the Fellowship Bible Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Speed. She is survived by her husband, Jack Steele of Diana; daughters and sons-in-law, Jana Kay King and Ray Etter of Richards, Texas, and Jolene and Jeff Gates of White Oak; her mother, Pearl Lambright Speed of Port Arthur; grandchildren, Jaimee, Jordan, Jensen, and Jilian Gates; brothers, Athan Hughes of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Roger Speed of Quitman, Texas, and Randy Speed of Port Neches, Texas; and sisters, Rheda Darbonne of Nederland, Texas, Judy LeMaire of Gonzales, Louisiana, and Margie Ambrose of Denison, Texas.
