Elmer Rual Simpson GILMER — Graveside services for Elmer Rual Simpson, 58, formerly a resident of Colorado Springs, Colo., will be held at 9 a.m. in Tidwell Cemetery. The Rev. Jesse Bemis will officiate. The motorcade will depart Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer at 8:30 a.m. Rual passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002. The son of a pioneer family, Elmer S. "Shine" Simpson and Flossy G. Landers Simpson, Rual was born May 20, 1944, in Gilmer. After graduating from high school, Rual joined the U.S. Navy and served one year aboard the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier. After serving in the Navy, Rual started an air conditioning business. He later moved his family to North Bend, Ore., where he served as a civilian employee of the U.S. Air Force. After the government closed the air force base near North Bend, he was transferred to Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, where he served as a civilian engineer until his retirement from the Civil Service on April 5, 2002. He returned to the Indian Rock community near Gilmer in May 2002. Rual was preceded in death by his oldest son, Paul Alan. Rual is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell Brett and Angie Masching Simpson, and their children, Tristin and Tamra, as well as grandchildren Ashley Jo and Travis Alan of California. Rual is also survived by his former wife, Sandra Evans Simpson of Colorado. He is also survived by three sisters, Billy Claire Simpson Phillips and her husband, W.M. "Bill" Phillips, of Irving; Glenda Lou Simpson Travis and her husband, Bobby Travis, of Ore City; and Wa Neene Simpson Joines and her husband, Joe Joines, of McKinney; and two brothers, Bobby Jack Simpson and his wife, Janet Eaton Simpson, of Portland, Ore., and Jim Barry Simpson and his wife, Leigh Ann Roberts Simpson, of Mount Pleasant. Survivors also include numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at the funeral home. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
