Spencer, Mildred E. Mildred E. Spencer, 86, passed away on May 30, 2007, in Longview, Texas. She was born October 16, 1920, in Pittsburg, Texas, to Garland and Nettie Blanche Tucker, and she was one of four children. Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William Edwin Spencer; twin infant sons; sisters, Edna Fleming and Huron Gilliam; and brother, Tracy Tucker. Mrs. Spencer graduated as salutatorian from Pittsburg High School in 1938, and she married William Edwin Spencer from Simpsonville, Upshur County, Texas, on June 3, 1938. They lived in Overton, Rusk County, Texas, where Mr. Spencer was employed in the oil industry. After serving in the Pacific campaign during World War II, Mr. Spencer moved the family to Judson in May of 1946, where he continued his employment in the oil industry. Mrs. Spencer worked in food service for the Longview School district for 21 years until her retirement as high school cafeteria manager in 1982. She has been a member of First Baptist Church of Judson since 1947. Family and church were of utmost importance in her life. She taught Sunday school for many years. Her grandchildren brought great joy to her life, despite not living nearby. She is remembered for her outstanding loyalty to her family and her willingness to aid friends and family. She considered herself blessed to be surrounded with many friends and caring neighbors, and especially those at Buckner Assisted Living. Mrs. Spencer is survived by a son, Phil Spencer and wife, Dee Ann of Bella Vista, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Brad Spencer of Longview, Texas, Bart Spencer and wife, Lori of Dallas, Texas and Lisa Romine and husband, Tyler of Frisco, Texas; great-grandson, Maddux Spencer; great-granddaughter, McKena Spencer; also special niece, Peggy Rose and husband, Don of Wheeler, Texas; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2007, at the First Baptist Church of Judson. Interment will be in Soules Chapel Cemetery of Upshur County, Texas. Officiating the services will be the Reverend Albert Murdoch. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church of Judson, P.O. Box 53, Judson, TX 75660.
