Services for Shirley Ann Capps Smith, 78, of Gilmer will be 2PM. Saturday April 30, 2016 at McWhorter Funeral Home with Bro. David Reeder officiating. Burial will follow at Ore City Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8Pm. Friday April 29, 2016.

Shirley Ann Capps Smith was born October 4, 1937 in Ensley, Alabama to Jess Willard and Marion Jane Capps. She was one of five children born to the couple. Shirley passed away April 24, 2016, at her home in East Mountain after a long illness.

Left to cherish her memory are her 6 children Jimmy David Suggs of Gilmer, Marion Denise Suggs of East Mountain, Mary Ann Hawthorne of Hallsville, Willard Stewart Suggs of East Mountain, Jotham Ralph Suggs of East Mountain, and Charles Dean (Chuck) and wife Vivian of East Mountain. Brother; James Willard (Jimmy) Capps and wife Trena Joy of Mt. Pleasant. Sister-in-law; Glenda Capps, wife of deceased brother David Earl Capps of Longview. Sisters; Sandra (Sandi) Foster and husband Robert Sidney (Sid) of Longview, Janice Gayle Schellinger and husband James Alan of Caddo Mills, 20 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband William E. (Bill) Smith, her parents, Jimmy Dean Suggs who was her first born child, a brother David Earl Capps, and a grandchild David Lee Stuckey. 

Shirley was a very fun loving person who loved life and loved to dance and laugh. She loved her family very much. Shirley would help anyone when she could and asked for nothing in return. She was loved by everyone that knew her. She was religious and of the Baptist faith.

The family would like to thank Tina Stevens, Marilee Kennedy, Ms. Corine Hays, Lynn Lewis, Holly Holden, Ruthie Turner, Tori Vaughan, Bro. David Reeder, Courtney, Moms therapist, Texas Home Health and Texas Hospice, also all the many others who helped with Shirley’s care.
