GLADEWATER MEMORIAL PARK - UPSHUR COUNTY Herbert Wayne Taylor of White Oak, Texas went home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 84 on Sunday, January 4, 2015 surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Gladewater Memorial Park with the Reverend Bailey Harris officiating. Wayne was born in Depew, Oklahoma to Herbert F. and Sarah Marie Taylor on April 25, 1930. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Gladewater for many years. Wayne was a 20 year veteran of the USAF having retired in 1969 at Barksdale AFB, Bossier City, La. where he lived for many years before returning home to Texas. He served 2 years in the Presidential Honor Guard under President Truman and was active in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Left to honor and cherish his memory is his wife of 30 years Rubye Taylor, sons, Vincent W. Taylor and wife Dianne, Douglas R. Taylor and wife Gina, John E. Taylor and wife Dorothy and daughter, Lisa A. Easton. His brother, Mark F. Taylor and wife Linda, sister, Sharon King and husband Paul. He also had 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Mr. Taylor is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Tracy Jo Taylor and the mother of his children, Erla D. Taylor. The family would like to say a special thank you with deepest appreciation to the doctors and staff at Longview Regional Medical Center for their love, care and support during his brief stay. “Our Dad was a special man who touched many lives, and that was who he was - we love you Dad.”
