Contributed by Barbara Pollard Obituary for Ratio White in the Gilmer Mirror March 1948 RATIO (RACE) WHITE DIED SUDDENLY WEDNESDAY MORNING Ratio White, better known to all as "Race", died suddenly Wednesday morning March 16, 1948 at 2 o'clock. Mr. White had spent his entire life in Upshur County and had a wide circle of friends here. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dan White, he was born May 27, 1881 in Pritchett. At the age of 17 he lost his leg in an accident in a gin where he was working. He lived on the Pritchett Road a few miles from Gilmer. He was a member of the West Mountain Church of Christ. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel. Carl Holloway of Pritchett and Carl Tyson of East Mountain, ministers, conducted the service. Harmon Morgan of West Mountain had charge of the music. Songs sung were "Farther Along"; "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "God Be With You". Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Croley Funeral Home in charge.
