Wheeler, Dorothy Jean GILMER - Dorothy Jean (Ray) Wheeler, 89, passed away peacefully of natural causes at her residence in Longview, Texas, Friday, December 21, 2007. Mrs. Wheeler was born October 24, 1918, near Pritchett, in Upshur County, Texas, the only child of Clyde and Francis "Fannie" Ray. She lived most of her life in Upshur County. She married H.A. "Rhodie" Wheeler October 19, 1935. They resided in Glenwood for more than 70 years. She was first and foremost a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was also a talented seamstress, working for many years at Honey Togs in Gilmer and Gladewater. Mrs. Wheeler was a superb cook. Visitors always seemed to d rop by at breakfast to sample her biscuits and gravy. Her chicken and dressing was a most requested dish. Anyone was welcome in her home. She was also a lover of animals. She was extremely proud of her two granddaughters, Renee Drew and Whitney Wheeler, a senior at Texas A&M. Mrs. Wheeler was a founding member of Glenwood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and beloved son-in-law, Bob Arthur. She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Arthur of Longview; son, Larry Wheeler and wife, Anita, of Coppell, Texas; granddaughters. Renee Drew of Longview and Whitney Aurora Wheeler of Coppell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children's Medical Center of Dallas, Office of Development, 2777 Stemmons Freeway., Suite 1025, Dallas, TX 75207-2230. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today, December 23, 2007, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel in Gilmer, with Larry W. Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
