SUNSET MEMORIAL PARK - UPSHUR COUNTY Williams, Mattie Ruth Stropp GILMER - Services for Mrs. Mattie Ruth Stropp Williams, 88, of Gilmer, will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2008, at First United Methodist Church of Gilmer, with Dr. Rick Webb officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. Mrs. Williams passed away on Friday, February 15, 2008, in Longview, Texas. She was born June 26, 1919, in Gilmer,to John Henry Stropp and Mattie Lee Mathis Stropp. Mrs. Williams graduated from Gilmer High School, Texas State College for Women and received her bachelors degree from SMU. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gilmer and the 20th Century Club. Active in the East Texas Yamboree, she was an avid golfer and involved in the Ladies Golf Association at the Gilmer Country Club. Her priority was her family, who will miss her greatly. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Don W. Williams of Gilmer; sons, Stephen John Williams and his wife, Lynn of Gilmer, Paul David Williams and his wife, Barbara of Gilmer; daughters, Donna Williams Farris and her husband, Gearald of Longview, Nancy Williams Sawyer and her husband, Jim of Longview; grandchildren, Scott Williams, Eric Williams, Todd Williams, Greg Williams, Brian Williams, Tracy Esquivel, Cynthia Pittenger, Sara Jayne Farris, Jennifer Harris, Amy Brown, James Sawyer, David Sawyer, Lisa Sawyer and Emily Sawyer; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Wendell Keith Stropp. Pallbearers will be Scott Williams, Eric Williams, Todd Williams, Greg Williams, Brian Williams and John Stropp. Special thanks to Mattie's caregivers, Mary LeBlanc, Rene Scott and Stephanie.
