Comments: William Washington Shepperd came to Texas with father and stepmother, Rebecca F. Burnley (Porter) prior to 1860 (listed on 1860 census in Upshur County, Texas). Orginal enlistee 09/16/1861 into 10th Texas Calvary, Co. C (private) at Taos, Texas. Wounded in arm seriously 12/31/1863 at Battle of Murfreesboro, TN. Sent to Texas State Hospital in Quitman, MS and later back to Texas. Donated land for Locust Grove Cemetery outside Big Sandy, Texas and is buried there next to his wife. Locust Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery established 1880.
