Baylor County Courthouse, TXGenWeb

Hi, I am Dorman Holub, the TXGenWeb coordinator for Baylor County. I do not live in Baylor County, but I'll be glad to help you in your research. I've spent years researching Baylor County searching for men and women who moved here from all over the country.

Baylor County is in the north region of Texas and the county seat is Seymour. It was formed from Fannin County in 1858 but wasn't organized until 1879. The county is named in honor of Henry Weidner Baylor, a surgeon in the Texas Rangers during the Mexican-American War.

This painting of the original Baylor County Courthouse by Betsy Jones is on display at the Baylor County Clerk's Office in the present courthouse.
