This county is in need of a coordinator. If you can spare a couple of hours a month, please contact Carla Clifton to adopt this or another orphan county in TXGenWeb.

Welcome

Bee County needs a coordinator; if you're interested, please contact me. My name is Carla Clifton and I'm the Orphan County Coordinator for TXGenWeb. I'll do my best to answer your general questions but I don't live in this area.

Bee County is in the southern part of Texas, north northwest of Nueces County and Corpus Christi. The county seat is Beeville and they're both named for Barnard E. Bee, Sr., a secretary of state of the Republic of Texas. The county was created in 1857 from sections of Refugio, Live Oak, San Patricio, Goliad and Karnes counties. Present-day Beeville was established on a 150-acre land donation made by Ann Burke in May 1859 after the Republic of Texas was annexed by the United States. It was first named "Maryville" for pioneer Mary Heffernan.
