Frontier Company, Regiment Unknown, Brigade Unknown

In December, 1861, the government of the "State" of Texas had authorized the formation of the Frontier Regiments.  Later, in November and December, 1863, the subjects of frontier defense and the Frontier Regiment was deliberated by the legislature. The result of these deliberations was "An Act to Provide for the Protection of the Frontier, and turning over the Frontier Regiment to Confederate States Service". This act created the "Frontier Organization". The plan called for the Governor to divide the frontier counties into three districts and place a suitable Major of Cavalry over each district. This would be the last major modifications to frontier defense by the state of Texas during the War for Southern Independence.

The following men are known to have enlisted in the "Frontier Company" from Blanco County. This Third  Frontier Company, commanded by Capt. James M. Hunter, was formed during the Civil War to protect homes and families on the Frontier in the counties of Atascosa, Bandera, Bee, Blanco, Burnett, Dawson, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gillespie, Karnes, Kerr, Kenny, LaSalle, Live Oak, Llano, Maverick, McMullen, Medina, Real, Uvalde and Zavala. They basically did the same work as the early Texas Rangers, to protect those living on the frontier from the dangers of such life from their enemies.  The Frontier Companies were part of the Texas State Troops, and were not part of the Confederate States of America.  They were organzied, supplied and paid by the government of Texas.
