Affidavit of Witnesses: John Hughes - We served in the army with applicant and had an acquaintance with him.

And that E.G. Young served in same Regiment with applicant.

From the War Department Adjutant General's Office: No record has been found in this office of McCabe's Battery, 9th Regiment, Arkansas Artillery, Confederate States Army.

The records show that one John R. Reed (name also borne as J. R. Reed), private, Captain Halliday's Company, Arkansas Infantry, subsequently Company D, 26th Arkansas Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisted May 12, 1862. On the roll for March and April 1863 (last on which his name is borne), he is reported absent, "Detailed to Daniels' Battery, July 25, 1862." No later record of him has been found, nor has any record of him been found as of Daniels' Battery, Texas, also known as the 9th Texas Battery, Confederate States Army.

Mr. J.R. Reed, a confederate soldier, has recently died. His relatives have turned the enclosed pension warrant over to us for return to you, with request that you send the usual check to cover burial expenses.
