ORION A.
BARNETT
I have
tried so many times to write, but words cannot
express our thanks to our dear friends of Burnet and
Llano counties for the kindness and love shown us in
this time, one of the saddest hours of our
lives. Without a moments warning God claimed
the soul of our precious son, Orion A. Barnett.
When the
words were flashed over the wires to us I could
not understand.
He had
served his country in the great World War, and had
faced death so many times and could it be possible
he had left us so soon, so young, so full of life
and plans for the future. He was a dutiful
son, a devoted husband and an affectionate
father. But the words came to me, "Blessed are
the dead, which die in the Lord, that they may rest
from their labours; and their works do follow
them." He obeyed his Savior two years ago and
lived a Christian life up to the time of his
death. We shall miss him in our circle, miss
his voice in our songs, miss his smile and kind
words, his advice, for he was always ready to smooth
our rugged paths. I can see his smile and hear
his voice as he would always say, "Mama, it is
alright." But God needed another jewel in
Heaven. He needed another singer in His choir,
another angel in His throng.
His mission on earth is
ended and God has called him home.
Not now, but in the
coming years,
It may be in a
better land,
We'll read the meaning
of our tears,
And then, some
time, we'll understand.
Then trust in God thru'
all the days,
Fear not, for He
doth hold thy hand,
Tho' dark thy way,
still sing and praise,
Sometime, some
time, we'll understand.
We'll catch the broken
threads again,
And finish what
we here began,
Heaven will the mystery
explain,
And then, ah
then, we'll understand.
We'll know why clouds
instead of sun,
Were over many a
cherished plan,
Why song has ceased
when scarse begun,
Tis then, some
time we'll understand.
