Abner Ricketson

Abner Ricketson served in the Spanish American War in 1898 in Company C, First Regiment of Texas Infantry, adding his service toa long line of Ricketson family military service, beginning with the Revolutionary War. Abner was the son of Hiram and Milly Wright Ricketson. He was born July 27, 1864 in Coffee County, Georgia and came toBurnet County, Texas as a small boy, arriving before the 1870 census.

He married Luraney Ricketson Wilbern, a widow with two children, in 1891. Abner and Luraney lived on a place between MarbleFalls and Kingsland in Burnet County on the Colorado River, which had belonged to his father, Hiram.

Here they had nine children:

Logan, 1993-1894;

Ophelia, 1894-1983, married Andrew James (Andy) Harwell;

Leona, 1895-1988, married John Banks Hoover;

Benjamin, 1896-1927, married Pansy Wall;

Andrew Jackson (Jack), 1897-1969, married Bessie McCarty;

Olga, 1899-1981, married Raymond Haile;

Myrtle, 1901-1996, married Francis Littleton (Frank) Fluitt;

Cleburne, 1903-1973, never married;

Thaddeus Milton, 1906, married Beulah Mae Ricketson.

Abner was a farmer and rancher. After he retired, he and Luraney moved to Burnet. (See Photo) Abner died of a stroke March 24, 1944 after chopping wood. He is buried in the Burnet Cemetery.
