Brown in Humphreys Co., TN. to Carolina Brown, Born 6/11/1822 in TN. She died 12/8/1885 in Burnet Co., TX; buried in Cauble Cemetery. Obediah B. Spradling is listed in several census as farmer and wagon maker.

Later Don Anderson sent me information that he found on Nancy Rebecca Spradling, Thompson. That was: He had found our Nancy Rebecca in the Dickson Co. 1880 Census. Living in the 5th District, Dwelling 105, Family 108, white female age 32 divorced, born in TN. She had these Children:

We know that James Parish came to Tx. at least once, sometime in the early 1900s to visit his brothers, Benjamin Franklin and Jerome Granville, and possible his three sisters, Edna, Martha & Mary Frances as there is a picture of him among old family pictures.

Caroline Brown Spradling come to Burnet Co, Tx. sometime in 1878 , with two of her sons, Benjamin Franklin and Jerome Granville Spradling and her daughter, Mary Frances Spradling. Two of her older daughters, Edna Elizabeth Spradling Davis & Martha Carolina Spradling Smith had married in TN. had already moved to Burnet Co. Tx sometime around 1870. Also a son, Alfred Guthrie Spradling, had come with them. The Smiths had settled on a ranch in the Oakalla community with Martha Carolina's husband's relatives.

The Davis' bought a ranch on 183 between Briggs and Watson, all in Burnet Co. TX. Benjamin F. Spradling married Lula Angeline Dennis, and they settled on a farm about 3 miles from Lake Victor, TX. Jerome Granville married Sallie Belle McManus and they lived around Lampasas, TX. When she died he married Kathryn Louise Freeman and lived in Lampasas, TX. Mary Frances married John A. Ashford. They lived at Oakalla for a while, then I believe they moved to Austin.

Carolina had a tragic death after being in Texas for about 7 years. The story goes that she was making soap and her dress caught fire and she only lived about 24 hours.

We have a deed showing that Carolina sold 30 acres of land in Dickson Co., TN just before she left there, to come to TX. One infant had died at birth. Her husband had died in 1864. One son killed in the Civil War. She left three sons and one daughter in TN. Before she arrived in Texas, her son, Alfred Guthrie Spradling, who had come earlier , died in 1873. She must have been a very strong and brave person.
