Josiah
Wills was born in 1825 in Alabama.
He died in Burnet County and is buried in Hoover's Valley Cemetery. He married Sarah Ann Banta who was born in 1832 Together they had 11 children. For more information, see Burnet County History, Vol II, page 340, and Herman Brown Free Library's Vertical File. ----- Josiah Wills came to the
Williams Settlement of Nacogdoches County at age ten with
his father,
William F. Wills, and two siblings.
Josiah’s first wife, Sarah Chism,
died before 1850, leaving three small children. In 1855, he
married
Sarah Ann Banta in Burnet County, resulting
in eight additional
offspring. The couple lived in Hoover Valley, where Josiah
practiced
medicine for many years in both Burnet and Llano Counties.
He was elected sheriff of Burnet County from 1862 to 1864. Descendants of Josiah that still have Llano County ties today include the family of his son, Alexander Vardie and Estella Goble Wills, and his daughter, Louisa Wills Wallis, wife of Mark Kemp Wallis. Dr. Josiah Wills’ medical books are now in the possession of the Wallis family.
