Let us not forget Staff Sergeant Larry Roy Sims, casualty of the Vietnam War.  As a member of the Army, SSG Sims served our country until September 12th, 1968 in bing Long, South Vietnam.  He was 21 years old and married when he died from small arms fire.  His body was recovered.

Larry was born on September 21st, 1946 in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, the son of Howard and Betty Sims. Howard was the youngest son of Samuel Austin and Alice Rosalie (Profitt) Sims. Howard was a WW2 Veteran, as was his brother, Richard Sims, and so many local [Burnet] relatives.

SSG Sims is on panel 44W, line 041 of the Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 4 years.

Note:  Lampasas and Llano casualties are mentioned here because many families in Burnet County
lived near the county lines and may have been known or part of Burnet family groups.

Jeffrey, Tillman Lee

  • Born: 02/14/47 @ Shepard Hospital, Burnet, Texas
  • Died:  Oct 28, 2010 in Loomis, CA.  He fought a 26 month battle first with prostate, then bladder cancer.  The VA determined his cancer and death were caused by Agent Orange.  Source of death info:  his daughter, Laura, Dec 2010.
  • Parents: Hilmer Levi Jeffrey and Ulma Louise Jeffrey (Garrett)
  • Enlisted in the U.S. Army on 5 December 1965 @ Los Angeles, CA
  • Graduated from U.S. Army Warrant Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Class 66-19, Ft. Rucker, AL in December 1966
