CAMP COUNTY - ROSE HILL CEMETERY NEWS ARTICLE - GILMER MIRROR, JAN 5, 1961 "Car Wreck Kills Mrs. Furgerson - Gilmer friends were shocked Monday to hear of the traffic death of Mrs. Jim Furgerson in Pittsburg. She and her husband resided here until about seven years ago when they moved to Pittsburg where he is the Chevrolet dealer. In Gilmer both were active in civic affairs and Gilmer Country Club. The tragedy occurred as Mrs. Furguson was taking her son, Robert, 7, to school. Her car was struck by a large truck on Highway 271 and a third car was involved in the accident, reported Police Chief J.T. Brannon. The young Furgerson boy suffered a head injury and was hospitalized. But he was reported in good condition later. His mother also received a head injury among others. She was taken to the Pittsburg hospital, but died about three hours after the mishap. Mrs. Furgerson was a native of Avery and a graduate of Paris Junior College. Also surviving are her mother, Mrs. Essie Duke of Paris, six sisters, Mrs. Jack Hill of McKinney, Mrs. Wooten Brown of Fort Worth, Miss Lelia Duke of Dallas, Mrs. Jack Denman and Mrs. Dewey Trim, both of Paris, and Mrs. J.W. Thomas of Helena, Ark. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at First Methodist Church with the Rev. B.R. Shelton officiating. Burial was at Rosehill Cemetery."
