Linden, TX - County Seat


In 1846 Cass County was formed from sections of Bowie County and was named for Lewis Cass, a Senator from Michigan. 

NOTE
:  Cass County was changed to Davis County 1861-1871. 
In 1861 Cass became Davis County, then in 1871 it became Cass County again.
Also note that for a short time, the county seat was Jefferson in Marion County.

Cass County had 4 names - June 18, 1953 - The Avinger Citizen Special Edition
 
Marion County cut from Cass - Jun 18, 1953 - The Avinger Citizen Special Edition - Marion county was cut from the southern part of Cass county and organized by an act of the Legislature in 1861. An act in April 3, 1861 appointed Isaac Clair the County Commissioner, under oath to run and make the county line between the counties of Marion, Cass and Titus. His filed notes creating the line between Cass and Marion counties May 28, 1861.
