William Harris Booker COLLIER was born in Georgia on 20 Dec 1838. William migrated with his parents, Effford Cobb COLLIER and Elizabeth Singleton HARRIS COLLIER, to CASS (then Davis) County, Texas, in 1857.
William enlisted as a private (furnishing his own horse) in Company I, 15th Regiment, Texas Cavalry, CSA, in Linden, Texas, on 22 Feb 1862. He was enlisted by Capt W. A. OLIVER, in CRUMP's Battalion of Mounted Volunteers.
Two Texas Cavalry Regiments were designated as the 15th, and this regiment was redesignated as the 32nd.
The 32nd was first sent to Arkansas where the unti was dismounted prior to being sent to the area around Cornith, Mississippi. During this time fram an epidemic swept through the Confederate camps around Cornith, and William probably took ill (there were no major engagements at this time) and was sent south with other sick soldiers to the Confederate hospital at Enterprise, Mississippi, where he died on 5 Jun 1862. He was buried in the Confederate Cemetery at Enterprise on 7 Jun 1862.
