Dedicated to the memory of Carl Zimmerman who died Sept. 30, 1951 at the age of 23, in the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge in the Korean War.

Killed in Action

Private First Class Zimmerman was a member of the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on September 30, 1951. Private First Class Zimmerman was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

He was the only child of Fred Bethea Zimmerman & Elizabeth Matilda McCoy (also known as "Sista" or "Lizzie")  He was the grandson of David D Zimmerman & Zoar Robinson and of Ruben Whitfield McCoy & Rhoda Bell Welsh.
